ADHERENCE TO THE INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL FOR SCIENCE
AFFILIATION TO ICSU UNIONS

4. INTERNATIONAL UNION OF PURE AND APPLIED CHEMISTRY (IUPAC)

Introduction:

Established in 1919. IUPAC is recognized as the international authority on chemical nomenclature, terminology, symbols, units, atomic weights and related topics. Its reports and recommendations on these matters are generally accepted as definitive and often from the basis for drafting regulations relating to chemical manufacturing, international commerce and matters relevant to food, health and the environment. The following are its objectives:

-to promote the continuing cooperation amongst the chemists of the Member Countries.

-to study topics of international importance to Pure and Applied Chemistry which need regulation, standardisation and codification;

-to cooperate with other international organisations which deal with the topics of chemical nature;

-to contribute to the advancement of Pure and Applied Chemistry in all its aspects.
