ADHERENCE TO THE INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL FOR SCIENCE
AFFILIATION TO ICSU UNIONS

5.INTERNATIONAL UNION OF CRYSTALLOGRAPHY (IUCr)

Introduction

The Union was admitted to ICSU in April,1947. Since its formation, The Union has remained a focal point for international cooperation in crystallogrphy. It has 17 Commissions, which are concerned with either a principal publishing activity or a major topic or field of concern to crystallographers. The second groupof Commissions organise many international projects concerned with the establishment of internationally acceptable standards or methods of procedure. Also they organise specialist meetings or short courses of instructions for young scientists. IUCr has following objectives:

-to promote international cooperation in crystallography to contribute to the advancement of all aspects of crystallography;

-to promote international publication of crystallographic research;

-to facilitate  standardization of methods, units, nomenclature and symbols used in crystallography and

-to form a focus for the relations of crystallography to other sciences.
