PROCEDURE FOR SELECTION AND OTHER CONDITIONS

(for subject-wise medals/lectures and INSA-Vainu Bappu Memorial Award)

1. Notice of the Award : Preceding the year of the award, the Executive Secretary shall issue a circular in August to all Fellows of the Academy inviting nominations by October 15.

The nomination paper shall specify (a) Full name, age and address of the nominee; (b) Academic and professional qualifications and positions held; (c) A brief statement (of about 300-350 words) of the outstanding contributions of the nominee in the discipline concerned, highlighting the impact of the work; and (d) A list of titles of the most significant published works (not more than 10).

The communication inviting for nominations should also indicate the names of all the previous recipients of the award.

2. Consideration of Nominations by Sectional Committees :

The nominations received by the Academy will be forwarded to the respective Sectional Committee (to which the award belongs to) for their consideration. The members of the Sectional Committees will be entitled to suggest more names, if they so desire. The deadline for receiving the nominations should be therefore so fixed by the Academy as to allow enough time for the Sectional Committee members and the Conveners to act as suggested.

The Sectional Committee will recommend a panel of not more than two names for the consideration of the Council. The recommendations made by the Sectional Committees shall not be valid unless a minimum of four members shall have voted for the candidates selected. It shall be open to the committee to report to the Council that no award shall be made for the particular year, should the committee consider that no suitable name can be proposed in which case the award for the year shall lapse.

3. Selection by the Council:

The final selection will be made by the Council. It shall be open to the Council to recommend more than one scientist for the award In such a case the honorarium will be equally shared among the scientists selected as recipients of the award but each will be given a separate medal.

4. Announcement:

The name(s) of recipient(s) shall be announced to the Fellowship in August after receiving intimation of acceptance.
