Venkoba Rao (b 20 August 1927; d 25 September, 2005) was born in Kavutalam, Andhra Pradesh and did his D.Sc. in 1978 from University of Madras specializing in Psychological Medicine. Jan Karol Kostrzewski ( b 2 Decemberr, 1915; d May 27, 2005) was born in Cracow, Poland and did his M.D. in 1948 from Jagiellonian University, Cracow, Poland; Hony Diploma, Polish Medical Alliance, Chicago, U.S.A. in 1974 specializing in Epidemiology. He had served as Vice-Minister of Health and Chief State Sanitary Inspector.Kostrzewski’s investigations span over a wide field which included: mortality from typhus fever in Poland reticuloendothelial system in malaria; the epidemiology of trench fever; the diagnosis of typhus fever in interepidemic period; the epidemiology of poliomyelitis in Poland; the epidemiology and prevention of diphtheria in Poland; the role of recrudescences in epidemiology of louse borne typhus fever, and time trends in certain acute infectious deiseases during the last thirty years; evaluated oral poliomyelitis vaccine prepared from Koprowski’s type 1 (Chat) and type 3 (W-Fox) strains and the safety and effect of mass of oral vaccination with attenuated poliomyelitis type 1 and type 3 strains with respect to the epidemiologic situation of poliomyelitis in Europe; and also evaluation of typhoid vaccines in the laboratory and in a controlled field trail in Poland. philosophical systems. He was Fellow of number of scientific societies and
the recipient of T.S. Tirumurti Memorial Lecture of INSA in 1995. Dr A Venkoba Rao was elected to the Fellowship of Indian National Science Academy in the year 1989. |

ANNOUNCEMENTS Last Date for Making Nomination for Election of Fellows and Foregin Fellows Attention is drawn of Fellows of INSA that 15 October 2006 is the last date for receiving nomination for election as Fellow and Foreign Fellow. The nominations received on or before October 15 will be included for consideration in the year 2007, while those received after October 15, will go to the year 2008. The Fellowship Nomination Form can be procured by the INSA Fellows from the office of the Academy. | |||

Strengthening of Security in INSA Complex The surrounding of the Academy (INSA), its multistoreyed building and multifaceted activities demands special precautions and strengthening of the security arrangement. Sometime back Fellowships were provided cards to facilitate uninterrupted access to INSA premises. In view of the recent incidence in the Scientific Institution, an appeal is being made to Fellowship to send stamp size photograph for a new Fellowship card. | |||

Proceedings of the Indian National Science Academy From 1st January 2006 Proceedings of the Indian National Science Academy, which were published in two parts covering areas in Physical Sciences and Biological Sciences respectively in alternate months, has been merged and a single volume will be published. Each issue will cover areas under Biological Sciences and Physical Sciences. There will be four issues each year to be brought out in March, June, September and December. The Proceedings will contain review papers, original research articles, short communications, commentaries, lateral thinking and emerging techniques etc. Dr Krishan Lal, FNA has been appointed Editor-in-Chief with Professor M M Johri and Professor S K Dogra as the Editors for the Biological Sciences and the Physical Sciences respectively with new Editorial Boards. | |||
