Announcement of INSA Awards

Following General Medals /Lectures Awards were announced during Anniversary General Meeting:

1. The Aryabhata Medal 2006 to Professor MS Raghunathan, FRS, FNA for his outstanding contribution to lie groups, algebraic groups and discontinuous groups.

2. The Meghanad Saha Medal 2006 to Professor Yash Pal, FNA for his pioneering contributions to high energy physics & astrophysics, communication, space technology, science policy, for institution building in education & research, and for promoting a holistic approach to the overating linkage of science & society.

3. INSA Medal for Promotion and Service to Science to Professor CNR Rao, FRS, FNA for providing leadership in S & T for over three decades, for building institutions par excellence, for building new generation science leaders, for numerous initiatives fructifying into a stepjump ambition in S & T and finally for sustaining worldclass research by his own example for almost five decades.

4. Indira Gandhi Prize for Popularization of Science 2006 to Dr Ramesh Dutt Sharma for his immense contribution by writing both in Hindi and English on wide range of subjects including agriculture modern biology and medicine.

INSA Honorary Scientist Programme

In order to continue to engage and utilize the expertise of superannuated Fellows of INSA primarily for research work the council decided to revive and modified the programme which will be
                       

 

operational from January 2006. The Awardee shall be called ‘INSA Honorary Scientist’. Any superannuated Fellow of INSA will be eligible, and the number of Honorary scientists to be selected each year will depend on the availability of funds. The term of an INSA Honorary Scientist will initially be for a year which may be extended on year to year basis.
                                   The contingency grant has been increased from Rs.35,000/- to Rs50,000/- per annum which will be released in one installment directly to the Honorary Scientist or through institution. INSA Fellows may nominate themselves or any other Fellow can make suggestion in writing to the President INSA.Detailed guidelines can be seen on the INSA Web Site.
