XIX CODATA International Conference & 24th CODATA
General Assembly

The XIX CODATA International Conference was held in Berlin (Germany) from 7-10 November 2004. Indian participants presented their work in the fields of materials science, bio-informatics and geophysics. The 24th General Assembly of CODATA which was held
on 11-12 November 2004, decided to form a strategic planning committee and prepare a broad road map for activities in the next five years or so. Stress was also laid on greater collaboration with International bodies lie INASP and ICSTI. The next CODATA Conference and General Assembly will be organized at Beijing in 2006. Ukraine will host the 2008 CODATA Conference and General Assembly.Professor Krishan Lal, FNA, was elected Vice-President
for the period 2004-2008.
Agreement on Scientific Cooperation Signed with Korea
Research Foundation (KRF)
A 5-Member Korean delegation led by Prof Ja-Mun Ju, President, Korea Research Foundation (KRF) visited the Academy on 14 April 2005 and signed an agreement on scientific cooperation with the Academy for the development of joint activities in Basic Studies in all fields of science & technology including agriculture, medical and engineering sciences. To start with the collaboration both the sides decided to organise an INSA-KRF joint seminar on the identified topic. It is believed that the cooperation with KRF will serve to open a new chapter in India-Korea Bilateral the Cooperation and will further solidify the friendly relations between the two nations.

scientists, scholars, industries, institutions of higher research and to provide them opportunities to exchange information,ideas, skills and techniques in the area of S & T. Professor Shieh visited various scientific institutions in Delhi and Bangalore in the field of Aerospace technologies, information communication technology, medical science, biotechnology and high speed/grid computing.

Inter-Academy Panel on International Issues (IAP) Initiatives
Dr S R Shetye, FNA, Director, National Institute of Oceanography, Goa participated in the first IAP Working Group Meeting on “The Global Natural Disaster and its Mitigation” on June 4-5, 2005 at Beijing for the preparation of document on Natural Disaster and its Mitigation for the decision makers.
