For his outstanding contributions in upper atmospheric sciences, especially his unique interpretations in ionospheremagnetosphere coupling processes, storms and sub-storms, space weather and non-linear wave processes in space plasmas. For his contributions to the molecular virology of Japanese Encephalitis Virus (JEV) such as the sequencing of the genome of an Indian isolate of JEV and the demonstration of the host cell proteins with JEV genome.
